The 52 Book Challenge of 2014

Happy 2014, everybody! Hope you had a relaxing break and are all set for an exciting new year…

There was a piece in the Independent the other day about how reading a novel boosts your brain power for days. According to the article,

The new research, carried out at Emory University in the US, found that reading a good book may cause heightened connectivity in the brain and neurological changes that persist in a similar way to muscle memory.

In light of this, one of the more aspirational resolutions on my list this year is to read a book a week. In an effort to keep me honest and reading, I’m sharing the sheet I made in the hope that friends, family and fellow (lapsed) bookworms might join me in this.

We were discussing this the other night and agreed some ground rules for our household:

1. The book has to have at least 200 pages.

2. It cannot be a picture and/or photo book.

If you choose to join us in this slightly bonkers challenge, please feel free to adopt or adapt these as you see fit! Do whatever makes you feel most happy and comfortable.

Please let me know the books you know and love, and pass on any book recommendations. My to read pile is pretty intense at the moment, so I’m definitely looking for lighter and more enjoyable reads! I’m going to add some of my favourites to the book store to the left and will write up some reviews.

The only two resolutions I remember successfully completing previously were to swear more (classy, accomplished) and to buy 52 pairs of shoes. Hopefully this one will be a little more constructive, but just as enjoyable and achievable…
